Is it allowed to place an ambush (partly or wholly) on a road crossing terrain that would otherwise permit an ambush?
The rules (“Terrain Table†on p 72) say “Ambush: Not Possible†on roads. Does this “Ambush: Not Possible†also apply to roads running through terrain that otherwise permit ambushes such as a road through a village, field (for LI) behind a hill? The rules (p 72 under “Roadsâ€) says, “However, it (the road placed over other terrain) does not change the type of terrain crossed in regards to combat.†This does not seem to say the type of terrain crossed allows for ambushes along the road.
I can see justification for either allowing such ambushes (the are hiding just off the road in the trees, or around a bend, or in the shadows, etc.) or not allowing them (nobody is surprised by troops being on a road, the visibility along a road prohibits most ambush opportunities, etc.). But what is the actual rule here? |

if the road is in another terrain, that's this terrain that count for combat, protection and visibility. The road only permit moving along easier.
So, your ambush can be in the other terrain, and be placed at the place were there is a road.
The "not possible" is for road as the sole terrain feature, i.e in clear open terrain. _________________ Audentes fortuna iuvat. |
