6cm frontage x 8cm depth. OK? Looks OK by the rules; just wondering if the full 8cm depth causes any issues in game play?

I use pikes in 3 ranks of 3 on a 60mm x 60mm, copying many others that I have seen. It is clear they are pikes, fits on the base and saves figures (mine were painted nearly 40 years ago, so getting a match would be difficult).

Yes, but is an 8cm depth an issue? The diagram on pg8 of the rules shows a frontage 4:6 depth ratio option for pikemen. However, for 28mm it reads as though 6cm is the preferred depth (and not 8 or 9cm).

My plan was to use 6 x 6cm with 3 ranks of figures. But the possibility of a slightly deeper base assists with the front base edge pike protrusion issue when using figures with horizontal or some diagonally angled pikes.

The extra depth is only an issue if your regular opponent is a bit of a knob. 

This can usually be avoided by careful choice of opponent.
