I had a light camel evade today. In doing so it met some cavalry in step 5 of the evade procedure.

Per page 39 if Camels interpenetrate Cavalry they cause a cohesion loss.

I did not see any clause that allows the camels to slide to avoid interpenetration so played it that they had to do so.

Page 49 has a bullet which says that friendly units which can be interpenetrated are passed through without cohesion loss. However this seems to me to be the general case and not an exception to page 39.

I agree. Your LCm can and thus must pass through the (horse) cavalry and thus inflict a cohesion loss on your cavalry for being passed through by friends who cause panic. The LCm are allowed to interpenetrate and thus don’t slide or wheel to avoid this.

A key point is: if you can interpenetrate it, then it is not an obstacle.

Took me a moment to wrap my head around the question and rule.

This all presumes the Cavalry is aligned parallel the camelry, correct?

No, the LCm can wheel to line up and pass through.
