Britcon - L'Art de la Guerre
At Britcon this year there will be two ADLG periods.
Both periods will be played to V4 plus any FAQ and emandments in time at the date of the event.
15mm Ancients - Two Themes - one Competition!
The 15mm event will run with 6 games over the weekend, (Friday night, 3 games on Saturday and 2 games on Sunday) with;
Rounds 1-3 being played with armies valid before 1000AD plus the American lists (excluding the Conquistador Option post 1519 for the Texcalan army #290)
Rounds 4-6 being played using lists valid from 1000AD.
A different army list must be chosen for each period
Allies must be valid in the same dateline as the main list
All armies are 200 points
Standard sized tables of 120cm x 80cm.
Players must bring their own terrain pieces and ideally cloths too
25/28mm Open Event
The 25mm event will run with 5 games over the weekend, (3 games on Saturday and 2 games on Sunday) with;
1 list, any army.
The 25/28mm period is for armies based on '25mm bases' with 60mm base widths.
Other figure scales on these bases are totally acceptable as long as they look nice
200 points
6x4 tables
Players must bring their own terrain pieces and ideally cloths too
The timetable for 15mm is as follows:
Friday : 6:00pm earliest start, 730 latest start, play to a conclusion or around 11 pm when time will be called.
Saturday : 0930-1145, 13:00-1515, 16:00-1815
Sunday : 09:00-1115, 12:30-1445
These games times will be extended by a few minutes (up to 15) as decided by the umpires.
When time is called there will be a 'hard stop' to the games - put the dice down, and work out the result. We know there are pro's and cons to this system, but it is the same for everyone and greatly helps the overall organisation of the whole event (we are inputting scores and calculating draws for almost 200 players across 10+ other events too) by preventing games dragging on and holding up the scoring.
For 25mm there will be no Friday night game, with the 5 rounds running to the same schedule as the 15mm competition on Saturday and Sunday.
Scoring will be done on the usual French system.
Umpire : Tim Porter, plus the usual cabal of experts who'll be playing anyway
List Checkers : 15mm Simon Le-Rey Meyer urban_bunny@yahoo.com.au
25mm Tim Porter lists@madaxeman.com
Please use the Official spreadsheet and submit lists in original Excel format (not pdf etc) if you can.
List submission deadline August 1st
How do I enter?
Use the online booking form on the Britcon Booking Page . Your entry fee includes a grab-bag lunch on both days of the event, and a "Spend £10, get £5 off" voucher to use with any of our traders at the show _________________ www.madaxeman.com |

“Other figure scales on these bases are totally acceptable as long as they look nice Smile “
This seems like a good idea as it could allow players with 6-10 mm figs to start participating. This is an interesting scale as you can get really nice looking units in formation rather than just a few guys at this scale.
(From my own POV and painting skill, it’s easier to get a decent looking army at this scale than with 25mm where the larger scale really just highlights the inadequacy of my painting skill/technique.) |

The BHGS team are now working full steam as we head toward our biggest event of the year Britcon (11-13th August) in its new home in the middle of the UK's wargaming map, Nottingham Trent's University City Centre Campus.
Britcon this year again features a host of one, two and three day events and competitions, including:
L'Art de la Guerre 15mm 6-games 3-day event Fri/Sat/Sun
L'Art de la Guerre 25mm 5 games 3-day event Sat/Sun
If you've not already signed up and are looking for any excuse to avoid doing DIY and/or gardening over this 4-day Easter weekend, why not book your Britcon ticket right now and start planning your army for the event?
The link to sign up is at : https://www.bhgs.org.uk/britcon---how-to-enter.html
Every Britcon entry ticket again includes a £5 trader voucher and also a grab-bag lunch for each weekend day you are playing - saving you somewhere north of £15-25 in on-the-day outlay compared to many other events and venues on the UK wargaming circuit (and also meaning that "queuing for food" isn't going to eat into your gaming, shopping and socialising time at Britcon either!).
The BHGS have also secured a complete block of student accommodation in University Halls, 5 minutes walk from the venue (and next to a Weatherspoons with late night opening) which you can book along with your gaming ticket - our allocation of rooms is already 50% sold out, so if you want to take advantage of this offer make sure to book soon before we run out of rooms.
Before Britcon of course the The BHGS Challenge will again return to the UK's biggest gaming event, UK Games Expo at the NEC in Birmingham over the weekend of 3rd & 4th June with ADLG, DBMM and Epic Armageddon rulesets all on offer this year and availabe to book on the UKGE website.
Whichever of our events you are planning on attending, we look forward to seeing you across the table later in the year.

Our onsite student-priced B&B accommodation is filling up rapidly and with the "book 12-weeks out to get the best price rail tickets" window fast approaching (on the 19th May) now is the ideal time for anyone who hasn't yet signed up to start planning their trip to Britcon 2023.
Britcon is again being sponsored by Forged in Battle, and they (along with any others) will be providing prize support again this year. We will also be working again with the Nottingham Board & Wargames Club (and their new gaming centre) to support the event and run the Bring and Buy at the weekend tradeshow too. The Britcon Trade Show is looking set to be one of our biggest ever with a host of new traders including Ramshackle Games, Fforfreddie / Terra Firma, Pandyman Games, Athena Miniatures, Sarissa Precision, KR Multicase and Footsore Miniatures all joining our many returning traders - the updated list is available on our website for those of you keen to start planning their shopping well in advance. |

Current signups have just exceeded 3 dozen players across our 2 pools this year meaning we're now only 4 players away from matching (and then no doubt exceeding) Roll Call's count of 40 to make Britcon the biggest UK ADLG gathering of the year!
Those figures include half a dozen overseas players, giving you a chance to learn how to swear at your dice in a host of new languages too!

So... we now have the full set of Runners & Riders for Britcon this year - meaning we are sharing a rather astounding list of 70* armies which will be taking part this year in order to to kick off the pre-tournament ADLG banterdome !
We also have a globally eclectiuce mix of players hailing and/or travelling from England, Scotland, Zanzibar, Australia, Spain, Sweden, Portugal, Greece, France and Yorkshire all taking part this year - so now the lists are out, can any of you manage to read the bones/runes/entrails/discarded kebab components and divine who will end up on top of the pile at Britcon 2023 ?
(* OK, the 15mm competition involves the 32 players each using 2 different lists during the event, 1 "early" and one "late", but even so... it's still a big number!)[/img] _________________ www.madaxeman.com |
