| I'm not sure that I understand how I am supposed to base mixed units...I plan to use DBx style bases (so 2 x 40mm x 20mm bases instead of 1 x 40mm x 40mm, etc); so should I put spearmen on the front 40mm x 20mm base and crossbowmen on a 40mm x 20mm base behind them? Or am I supposed to mount spearmen in the first rank of each base, with crossbowmen behind them? I'm guessing the former but don't start to start basing stuff until I know that I'm doing it correctly! |

The normal way to depict mixed units it to have the Spearmen/Swordsmen in the front rank and missile troops behind, so 1 rank Spear/Sword, 1 rank missile as in your first option.
Basing them on separate 40x20 bases will give you the flexibility to field non-mixed Spear or missile units if you wish so it's agood way to go if you're looking at armies with both options. |

Depends on how flexible you want to be. If you want to be able to be able to run the spear as spear without mixing then one troop type per base.
Which is good future proofing for trying different lists of even rule sets.
If you're not bothered about versatility, then I would make only the front rank spears and the rest crossbows. |

Thanks for pointing this out; while I'm trying to keep things flexible, I only need a couple of mixed units so might do as you suggest with the two ranks on one stand. |
