Apparently somewhere in the world this weekend at a tournament an erroneous ruling was made.
mounted and Light horse all parallel facing the same direction.
CVCVCVLH
The apparent ruling permitted the CV to slide sideways onto the LH and then move forward where they were no longer overlapping. The ruling was interpreting that since units are facing the same direction that they may be transited in other than front to back or back to front direction via a slide.
This ruling was an error. You are not permitted to slide sideways onto a unit (LI excepted) and fulfill the orientation requirement of interpenetration.
As usual umpires make rulings in the moment, and we are all human. However all players should be aware this interpretation is an error and players should not play this way nor should umpires rule this way. I should also add that it is possible that the apaprent ruling was not made where i heard it, so this may be reported or misunderstood as to the actual tournament event. But best to "nip this in the bud" as they say.
The direction of passage must be straight and a slide would violate that. |

This was adjudicated by Hervé himself last September in a thread entitled, fittingly enough, Sliding Interpenetration. But it's not in the rules and didn't make it into last year's errata. It is lost in the bowels of the forum like tears in rain, as will be this discussion.
Surely there is someone here with the time, talent, and reliability to be entrusted with turning on a sticky bit once in a while. Course then there's the translation issue...
