Hi Guys,
This comes from a debate on the Facebook page and also from a situation in a game I was playing in recently.
p41 Type of contact:
Question 1:
Flank contact: A unit can contact the flank edge of an enemy if it begins its movement with its front edge either entirely or partially directly behind the straight line extending the front of the enemy unit and provided no part of the attacking unit's front edge is directly in front of the enemy's front or rear edge.
Does this mean that a charging unit can only contact the flank of the target unit if it starts in a flank position?
Can it contact the flank if it does not start in a flank position and conform to the front?
Question 2:
See diagram at bottom right of page 41.
Unit C1 - Cannot charge the enemy flank as part of its base is directly in front of the enemy.
Where is this mentioned in the rules?
Is this diagram enough for this to be taken as the rule?
Unit D - can contact the enemy's rear only.
Is this for the same reason as C1 (i.e. it starts with some of its base directly behind the enemy)?
Where is this mentioned in the rules?
Is this diagram enough for this to be taken as the rule?
As a follow-on question to the above - what would happen if an enemy unit was protecting the rear of the target with its ZoC? Could unit D contact a rear corner (if outwith the protecting ZoC) and conform to the flank?
If the ZoC did not cover all of the target's rear, could unit D charge the uncovered part of the rear and then conform to the flank as it can't conform to the rear due to the protecting ZoC?
Thanks in advance.
(P.S. not trying to formulate odd plays or reinterpret the rules - this is just an honest question to understand what people think and how they play it).

It's on P41, right-hand column, Para 3 headed "Flank contact". This is the rule you quoted in Question 1. Having a senior moment? _________________ Martin Stephenson

Yes - I think I might be! I read that several times and never noticed. TGIF! |
