On page 52 it says: "LH can also charge an enemy frontally if the LH has the impact ability..."
What if the LH charges an enemy that cancels mounted impact -- like spearmen, pikemen? Since the impact of the LH is canceled, does it lose it's impact nature and cannot therefore charge them?
(I realize it is not a bright thing to do...but just trying to clarify.)

Yes, the kamikaze LH can charge because the LH lost the impact for calculate the fight factor but not the impact ability when he's charging spear ou pike.
Fight factor: LH =0 (due to impact loss)
spear and pike = 3 (2 against LH + 1 for impact against mounted when receive charge)
