|
I was asked to post this on the forum to get an answer from France.
A player successfully rolls for a village and chooses to place it on a hill. (p 68 )
The player chooses then to cover the hill with a plantation. (p64)
Is this legal?
Or does page 68 imply a plain hill? |

it is legal.
as per p68, the hill can be steep, so the hill terrain can be other than clear.
you can have your hill open being clear or with plantation, bush or fields being rough or with woods being difficult and in either case the village will be on top being difficult terrain.
think of the hills in Italy, with village on top and vineyards on the slopes. _________________ Audentes fortuna iuvat. |

According to the set-up sequence, the defender must choose his terrain first. So both village and hill (steep or not) are counting in choosen terrain.
Now, if the defender wants the hil to be covered by something, it is free(for the number of terrains) but choice must be done before setting on the table. _________________ "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead"

I'm not sure it's possible to have two different cover (village and plantation) on the same hill ... _________________ Hasta la victoria Siempre!

For me it is possible, according to the rule to have a village plus a cover. The hill definition says that a cover is possible and the village definition says that it may be placed on a hill (whatever hill).
Many examples of villages on top hill with vineyards, orchards or terraced fields on the slopes are existing, especially in Mediterranean area _________________ "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead"

El Kreator has confirmed this is legal. A village can be on a hill. That hill may have cover. The village does not have to cover the entire hill. The village must be entirely on hill. |

So I guess you could design a village/hill with fields/brush combination that allowed you to put some bowmen on the hill in fields. Or is there another way to game this? |

Yes or you precise to your opponent that the hill is covered with brush. So terrain is difficult in the village and rough outside _________________ "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead"

I guess it gives you the ability to ambush some bowmen fairly forward in the village, then step out into the brush. Probably not that useful, but maybe. I know people who are probably measuring their terrain pieces as we speak.... |

Also allows you to have a village on a gentle clear hill and place heavy artillery on it that can fire overhead. |
