I'm looking at building a Sumerian army. Partly to get access to troop types I'm unfamiliar with, e.g. chariots and camels. But also because I'm fascinated by the earliest civilizations.
Here's what I have so far. What do you reckon?
Brilliant
4 Heavy Chariots
1 Light Cavalry Bow Mediocre
Strategist
2 Medium Swordsmen 2HW
4 Heavy Spearmen
4 Medium Spearmen Mediocre
2 Bowmen Mediocre
2 Light Infantry Javelin
Allied 17 Ancient Bedouin
Brilliant
4 Medium Camelry Bow
1 Light Camelry Bow
200 points, 24 units, 5 initiative. |

I think this army can be strong by number of units. 24 isn't enough. Try 30/32 or more. _________________ Hasta la victoria Siempre!

You have an over spend on generals.
Command is +4
the strategist uses 2 of these. _________________ Player 747 don't call me Jumbo |

I have ordered some of. The new Museum Miniatures figures - they look sensational in the photos. Draft list has 32 units, incl 2 chariots which I reckon you have to take cause they would look so good on the table. |

You can put the chariots on your command bases - there is a likelihood that they were really very few in number anyway and reserved for very important persons and generals.
I am assuming that the 40 BP army referred to is mostly HF spear mediocre - which is fine, until you come up against something like a Sh'ang Chinese with all those impetuous Heavy Chariots - but it's a very interesting idea.
I do however like the idea of the allied camels. |

I'm back! Working on this project again during lockdown.
I've refined the list based on experience. Now I have:
Two main corps, each with 6 HI Spear to hold the line, 3 MI Bow to shoot enemy skirmishers, and 2 LI Javelins to absorb enemy shooting. The compulsory Heavy Chariot lurks behind the line, ready to plug a gap.
One corps of 4 Medium Camelry to lie in Ambush.
1.1 Sumer and Akkad 200
This project is going to have to wait a bit though, because I just bought 200 Indians from Museum Miniatures...! |
