Is it just me or is this a strange faq answer, in direct contradiction of pg 48 that cover " is effective only if the line of sight ....goes through the terrain"
Target right on the edge if retain example
"If Red #1 and #2 can shoot, they can target the MI and Kn because the line of fire does not pass through more than 1UD of cover. The MI and Kn gain protection for being in cover. " |

My reading of the rules is:
- a unit less than 1 UD inside a wood can shoot at a target outside the wood in the open
- if the shooter is LI, it does not suffer a shooting cover penalty
- if the shooter is is NOT LI it suffers a shooting cover penalty
- I don't think the target counts as "in cover" simply because the shooter had less than 1 UD of wood between it and the target
- if the shooter is more than 1 UD inside the wood it does not have LOS to the target and can not shoot |

Hi Mike,
Ruling seems perfectly logical to me. As 100% of both units are 'in' terrain, LOS must therefore also pass 'into' terrain.
It doesn't matter to me that 'into' and 'through' are slightly different. We have a clearly defined ruling and I am glad that there will be one less thing to argue about

In the FAQ examples given:
- the target is inside the wood (albeit on the edge) so it is in cover
- the shooter is within 1 UD of the target so it has line of sight to the target (i.e. there is NOT more than 1 UD of wood between shooter and target; in fact there is only a gnat's todger of wood between the two). |
