They also lose 2MU of their allowance when they turn 90 degrees as well it as costing 2 pips.
I appreciate that may not be where some people might want to put them in terms of movement penalties related be to some other troops but there’s actually not that many other penalties in the ADLG toolbox for an author to apply.
The main usage of turns is also to turn into a flank when a melee breaks down. Costing 2 pips to do that is quite a big deal. Likewise not being able to turn 90/180 is more of a problem in “steppe†type matchups when enemy LH and CV start swirling around the Cats - anyone ZoCing them from the side or rear is a lot harder to deal with _________________ www.madaxeman.com |

Yes I appreciate that, DBA doesn't have any penalties for Pike or Cats as far as I remember so it's not like it is that outrageous. You can wheel 90 degrees into a flank without any added penalty is there any reason why you can't use that with an added slide also? |

You can only contact a flank if your front edge starts behind the enemy front edge … which is true for a wheel and a turn. .. however there are situations where a wheel will not work but where a turn would.
A wheel into a flank would need to be from a rather specific situation in which h your front edge is past the  adjacent enemy front, but only part way along their side edge to allow you to wheel into a flank.  So, 2 pips for a turn vs 1 pip is a PITA  that isn’t super common but the situations when it would be really useful to be able to turn for 1 pip will often happen at a stage of the game when you have a LOT of other demands on your pip roll !
The “slide†is only allowed if your move includes a 1MU advance at some point, so that is also a slight caveat to its utility.Â
This isn’t mega-common TBF, but the 2 pip penalty to turn really does bite you quite hard in the other scenario, of being ZoCced from the flank or rear.Â
Essentially a Cat is less easy to manoeuvre than most things, and it’s “relatively†easy for an opponent with Cv and LH to exploit this and make it even harder for the Cat player _________________ www.madaxeman.com |

This happens when a unit destroys an enemy and chooses to advance. Of course if it is in between two enemies is must turn and may not wheel as it may not overlap them.
But if it is on the end of the line it may wheel. |
