more seriously: Papaschltz is right about paying attention to the type of unit you can hide in fields, woods, ...
it's quite a common mistake for me (only at training so far, i don't do ambushes during tournament)
during a practice game, if you reveal a troop that should not have been hidden, your opponant may decide that you must place it on your opposite flank instead (somewhere useless and outside of its commander range ...)
during a tournament game, the referee may rule that this wrongly-ambushed-unit doesn't show up (not sure how it works for VP then)
