Hopefully we can create an English V3.0 FAQ/Clarification sheet soon to include things like this. It woudl be good to announce a plan or intention to publish this, maybe in a couple of months after more issues or corrections have been found?
|
Agreed. This needs to be a priority as we build English speaking player base. |
Ditto from Greece |

Hello
To answer your question, yes it is possible to contact a group of unit in the flank. To do that, you can slide each element contacted in the flank to align corner by corner with the attacker.
You have to consider that if the element is 4 cm deep, there is no issue contacted in the flank. If the element is only 3 cm deep, there is no reason that you cannot contact a column in the flank also.
I will add this point in the FAQ document, with the followin diagram :

Is it the same solution for foot units ?
It seems yes. |

Because it "could" also make sense for them to turn and become a formation that was two ranks deep ...
Consider, if 6 LF in a column (12cm deep) are contacted on the flank by 3 LF (12cm wide), if they turn as suggested above then only half of the LF contacted on the flank will have opponents.
At least one of the other three LF with no opponents might even want to become an overlap....
This would also happen if 4 Cavalry in a column (12cm flank) were contacted by 3 Cavalry in a line (12cm front) _________________ www.madaxeman.com |

I'm not sure to have well understood, but :
madaxeman a écrit: | ...to turn and become a formation that was two ranks deep ...

Sorry : LF = Light foot ?
Remember that 6 units in a column doing 1/4 turn become a 6 units long line, with only one rank, not two (each unit turns, not a 4x4 cm "group")
Furthermore, light foot charged in clear terrain must escape (except if charged by other light troops, like Belinconnux says). So, either succesfull escape, or backside fight.

When the charging units... charge, only the phasing player's units can move. So the 6 LF charged on their flank are not alowed to 1/4 turn. It will be a conformation at their own phase.
Of course, if 3 units are charging, they can contact only 3 other units, and not the 6. For the game, you'll have to separate the 6 (2cm deep unit, 2cm space, etc). When conforming, the column will have 3 units fighting, 2 overlaps, and 1 free to move...
madaxeman a écrit: | This would also happen if 4 Cavalry in a column (12cm flank) were contacted by 3 Cavalry in a line (12cm front) |
After the conformation, there will be 2x 3 cav units fighting, and the 4th overlap. |

I think the diagram almost shows the answer to my question, having read it again
3 LI will be moved to conform "AS IF THEY WERE 40mm DEEP".
The other 3 will be moved backwards out of the way.
I THINK the ones who are contacted are the front three LI in the column.
LI 4, 5 and 6 will all be pushed backwards out of combat. They won't be overlaps unless the player moves them with pips. _________________ www.madaxeman.com |
