I wonder what the factors are for Kn Impetuous charging LI Jav in rough. Kn are -1 (1-2 and no Impact bonus.) I think the LI are only 0 as they don’t count Javelin because their opponents had impact (even though it was cancelled by terrain), no?

Against LMI Javelin it’s 0 vs 0, no? LMI are 0 vs Kn and no Javelin bonus. Kn are 0 (2-2 and no impact). Given armor for knights this is not a great fight for LMI Javelins.

... in which this happening was seemingly succesfully navigated by both players without any comment or question arising at all ...

I think Zoltans point is proved Cool

Kevin what’s the point in posting a hypothetical question like this on the official forum? No one is ever going to send a knight into rough to fight a LI.

I have done it successfully more than once to secure a vital position from over confident enemy who thought a single LI or MI in terrain would make a line secure from armoured, elite mounted. High quality mounted in bad terrain are not that bad, especially with one or two simple supports from their buddies. When both players work out how effective such an attack is it can often be it is quite amusing, at least for the perpetrator.

So I am curious, what is the answer. If your impact is cancelled, e.g by a flank contact (a more likely scenario) or bad terrain, do you still cancel someone else’s abilities, like javelin or their own impact?

It is regrettable that questions this straightforward tend to fester, leading to bizarre conversations over whether asking rules questions in the "Rules questiop V4" forum is a wanton abuse of the "Rules question V4" forum.

Actually Mike, the third bullet on page seems to clearly, if obscurely, indicate that during flank/rear attacks dice effects of Special Abilities are discarded, but their cancelation effects remain.
As I understand it, there was a lot of tweaking to get the outflanking effects well balanced, and perhaps this was one of the tweaks. No indication that it extends to other situations.

P.18 Does the impetuous knight have the Impact Special Ability in rough? No, the knight's Impact ability is cancelled by penalizing terrain ("is cancelled" is code for "the impetuous knight does not have the impact ability in this specific scenario and at this specific point in time").

P.19 Is the LI javelin currently fighting against an opponent that "has" the Impact ability? No, the knight's Impact ability has been cancelled by penalizing terrain (see previous point). Accordingly, the LI's Javelin Special Ability is not cancelled.

Knight -1 versus LI +1 in first round of melee.
