Suppose you have unit (A) in contact with enemy (X) that is not lined up due to partial conformation. Can another unit (B) that is in side to side contact with (A) but not corner to corner with A, provide melee support to A? Note that B is not in contact with X and thus not edge to edge with X.

XXXX….BBBB
XXXX….
Y = enemy facing away that can’t be shifted and thus prevents A from fully conforming and will not contribute to the melee.
X facing up
A & B facing down
Y facing left.
The relevant rules might be:
P 60, 2 bullet (Simple support):
“The unit is in contact with part of its flank edge … against all or part of the flank edge of an enemy unit in melee on its front edge….â€
P 53, (Incomplete conformation):
“… However this [conformation] does not prevent from fighting each other even if they are not perfectly aligned.â€
Some rule somewhere that (possibly?) says units that are partially conformed fight as if they are fully conformed and this also applies to their potential supporters fighting as if they and the unit they are supporting are both fully conformed. (
Note this is a different situation than simple support p 60 bullet 1, which relies on the position of the friends (corner to corner w the friends) rather than enemy.
So can B support A vs. X? If so under what rule? |

Hi Kevin,
My interpretation for what it's worth:
Unit B is not in a melee support position because it is not on the flank or rear of unit X.
If you mean can it be in simple support then the answer is no.
It is not aligned front corner to front corner with unit A.
It is not in flank to flank contact with unit X. |
