|
If a unit that charges and is pursuing the evader legally allowed to slide along the edge of an enemy and has not yet moved its minimum distance can it stop as soon as its eligible to provide support or must it go the minimum distance?
For example:
The central (non-impetuous) Chola infantry unit (only) below charges the French LI in front of it (that is exactly 1/2 an UD away). The LI flees. The French LI on the right is already in melee with a Chola LI in front of it and thus the French LI (per p41) is already in melee and the sliding unit is charging. Does this mean the Chola infantry must (per p 43 #6 5th bullet) go at least 1 UD (and thus contact the French foot knights in front of them)? Or can they stop short, claiming they are providing support?

LI…..LI*
ELMIEL
FK - French foot knights
LI - French LI
LI* - Chola LI
EL - Chola Elephant
MI - Chola MI
PS - the 5th bullet says “Non-impetuous units should advance if possible at least 1 UD for foot or 2 UD for mounted….

Thanks for pointing that out. I had a small diagram and a link to a FB post/ picture but somehow it chopped off the bottom of my post here. Corrected above. |

Not that useful. One, it's on F*c*book. Two it's a private group. So I'd have to set up and account and join a group just to look at a picture.
PS text diagrams don't count. _________________ Martin Stephenson

The picture is essential to understanding the question. I did look at it.
You ask two questions. May it slide along the enemy? The answer is yes. See page 41 which is definitive on the subject. It is in the ZOC of an enemy
You ask if the unit may stop in corner to corner, or more, contact instead of contacting the enemy directly in front with its mandatory 1 UD charge move. I dont see anything which would allow it to do this |

Let's not beat on Kevin for the limitations of the chosen official forum software. It's easy enough to visualize the situation. Just remember to wrap it in code markers.

I don't like Facebook either but joining is kind of essential for these discussions. There's already more thought on the question over there.
I'm with Steve. I don't see how you can ignore the charge minimum distance. |
