|
This happened in last night's game, and is a little quirky.
A large command of infantry and a scythed chariot are unreliable. The scythed chariot is on the end of the line, closest to the centre but the command is on 1 flank.
The central command next to it comprises of cavalry. Through a combination of circumstances, the situation ends up with two cavalry units, each with 2 hits, and in column, sitting partially in front of the scythed chariot with the cavalry nearest the scythed chariot within 1 UD of it.
The first cavalry unit takes a hit from shooting. It routs, passing through the 2nd, which takes a hit and also routs. It in turn routs through the scythed chariot, causing it to rout.
There then ensued a discussion about whether the rout through the scythed chariot was enough to constitute an "attack" on the command and so make it become reliable.
What does the panel think?
I was the player shooting, so not unnaturally I didn't think that was an attack or a shot so it should remain unreliable. My opponent not unnaturally wasn't so sure.
It wasn't really a dispute, but this was the first time I can recall this set of circumstances coming up in a game so I thought I'd throw it out there |

Unusual situation!
As far as I'm concerned, I would have refered like this: since it's the collapse of one of their own units that causes the loss of the sacrificable, we can't consider that the conditions of the P80 'become reliable n' are met. Therefore, the command remains unreliable. _________________ "Quand on a pas de technique, faut y aller à la zob"

I agree with Lionel.
You can justify this a few ways, whatever way you want it to go.
We must default to the rules that do not have a provision that allows this to change anything. The unreliable troops were not attacked.
I guess they now feel justified in their unreliability because their side is quitting the field of combat! |

I'd blame their CinC for being a cheapskate who wanted to save 3 points and then failed to roll above a 2 for his command pips for the rest of the game and left them hanging about waiting to roll a natural 6 that never came |

Above all, how did he end up with 2 cavalry units in a column facing archers? He just needed to place his cavalry behind the infantry front line so the archers couldn’t shoot at them without putting the command being reliable. _________________ "Quand on a pas de technique, faut y aller à la zob"
