Never had them placed on the table before so I could use some help - thank you
Fourth bullet - the front edge of the unit defending the fortification is the front edge of the fortification. First bullet states that "moving through" the fortification costs an additional 1UD for foot and 2UD for mounted. To contact the unit defending the fortification, is the attacker "moving through" so that it must pay an additional 1 or 2 UD or does it suffice to contact the front edge of the fortification and not pay the additional UDs? I think it is the former (that you have to pay for the extra 1/2 UD) but would appreciate hearing from more seasoned players.
Third bullet - to receive the benefits of defending a fortification, the unit must be aligned corner to corner behind it. That bullet then reads: "If the unit is attacked on its flank or rear, it only benefits if the resulting combat takes place through the fortification".
I cannot envision a situation where the unit defending the fortification is attacked on a flank or rear that actually crosses the fortification unless its a multiple attack situation of if the flanking attacker lines up with the front corner of the fortification (as per bullet 4). In case of multiple attackers and the defending unit performs a quarter turn to face the flank charge, is it still considered to be aligned corner to corner with the fortification and therefore would still benefit if the other attacker now charges across the fortifications? If that is the only charge, would the defender still get the +1 and if the attacker is mounted, it would get a -2?
(BTW - does the flanking unit physically line up with the front corner of the fortification (see bullet 4) or the front corner of the defending unit. If the former, is the combat then taking place "through" the fortification? (Seems silly but can't hurt to ask).
Thank you
Best

I believe the attacker does not lose any movement as they are not crossing the fortification whilst attacking it.
The point about flank/rear attacks on troops behind the fortifications applies when there is a unit attacking from the front and a unit makes flank or rear contact with the defender, this can happen if you put your units behind a fortification that's say 5UD from the rear edge. |

1. Only costs when moving "through" - the fortification or obstacle would have to be undefended.
2. I think it's just there to cover the situation where a defending unit has its side edge aligned but it facing 90° to the side (or entirely turned around). This still requires the attacker on the other side of the fortification to be the main unit, which makes it extremely rare situation. |
