Hi all,

I'm trying to sort out my Later Crusades army and I was wondering whether it was better to go for the mixed sergeants (spear/xbow) or stay to separate.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

I asked myself the same question a couple days ago when i built my burg.ordn army. Let the longbows go with stakes and have seperat pikes? Or mix them for heavy spearmen longbow units?

I did go for seperat units but had no reason.

Now after the experience of the game...the mixed units weak point is the speed and the downgrade in hth combat. The good thing is that they have the cohesion of hvy units 4 and the spears cancel the impact of horse. Maybe you should do it like a general at this time might have done it:

Think about who you will fight and what terrain do you expect?

If you want to put the units in the open and expect to fight impact cav I would go for mixed units.

If you need to have some inf for bad going and the open is manly covered by your knights than go for seperate units.

I know that you will not know exactly what the terrain will be. But thats how it is....little guessing game....

I'm thinking of using them as the centre of my force so they should mainly be in open terrain. My opponent will usually be my Saracens (not decided which yet, probably Ayyubid) so a horse heavy opponent.

So that would seem to suggest that mixed may be the way to go.

All I have to do now is rebase both armies and then comes the hard part of finding an opponent.
