Hi

Take the example 1 on page 58. Assume an ongoing melee and it is now the HI turn. Can the HI spend 2 CPs to swing around to contact the pike's flank, thus still conferring a +1 for support but additionally reducing the pike factor to 0 and inflicting the loss of one cohesion per turn?

No.

The HI would have to move forward (into side-to-side contact). On their next turn, the HI can turn to contact the pike's flank.

Longtooth is correct you cannot swing onto a flank like this. P 51.

Thanks page 51 is indeed a font of knowledge.

So one would first have to spend two points to edge forward, then next turn two points to swing around to benefit from all the nasties!

why 2 CP to edge forward?

It only costs 1 CP because you are in contact.

Then if you wheel into the flank. Meaning your front edge has not passed the enemy rear it will only cost 1 CP.

If you are an un-maneuverable unit and turning 90 degree quarter turn then it is 2 CP.

Good point, I an not find it in the rules but the Reference Sheet states 2 CP if unit is in Melee. However reading the shooting rules implies that a supporting unit is not in Melee.

I think you are only in melee if your front edge is in contact with an enemy edge.
