Hello
Played third game and came across a situation we couldn't resolve. To simplify impetuous cavalry (IC) was in flank to flank contact with enemy heavy infantry (HI) and with an enemy camp in charge range (not directly in front). It may not be relevant but the front edge of the IC was 10mm further towards the enemies table edge than the rear edge of the HI.
In the IC's move:
1. We didn't think it couldn't charge the HI as they were already in contact (page 59).
2. It could enter into melee with the HI but that would cost 3 CP as it is not a charge or a move to support friends in melee (page 40).
3. The other option would be to charge the camp.
It just struck us as odd that the IC wouldn't just enter into melee with the HI under the uncontrolled charge rule.
Whilst writing I notice that under the uncontrolled charge rule any move other than an uncontrolled charge or move to support friends cost 3CP but doesn't actually say that a movement to support friends takes place under the rule. Perhaps it us implicit.
Grateful for any clarification. |

See page 55. If the impetuous unit got there due to a rout or disengage on the phasing players move it must turn to conform.
Page 41 bullet one. If a friend is fighting the unit it is beside it is in support and stays there.
Otherwise
Page 40 I think it would charge the camp as that is the target to its front. If the camp was not there then it would turn on the HI as an uncontrolled contact, unless the 3 CP are spent to turn it under control. |

Thanks. The IC arrived in this position because they pursued a routed enemy. I think this "is after a rout move" so I agree the rule on page 55 applies - thanks.
Re page 40 I don't think the IC would turn on the HI under this rule as such a move is not a charge and in this instance does not bring support to a friend in melee.
Basically the rule on 55 seems to solve this particular issue. Though I suppose that if the IC found themselves next to enemy otherwise than as a result of a rout or disengage move then page 55 does not apply and they couldn't contact them under the uncontrolled charge rule (unless this would bring support to a friend) which does seem a bit odd. Perhaps the answer is to regard the references to after a rout move / disengage on page 55 as illustrative only and the rule applies in all cases of being in contact but not in melee. |
