Hi All ,
Can I place the fortifications along the side of my heavy arty ? How would that work if they were attacked in the flank ?

(P 60 3rd bullet) When the unit is behind a fortification, the unit is protected, even on the flank or rear, if the attack is done across the fortification.
( 10th bullet) In the case of fortified artillery , it may pivot to the rear, maintaining contact with the fortification. The unit front is the fortification itself

So , to protect the flank , the fortification should be placed on the flank of heavy arty ? Or is the flank protected even if the fortification is across the front ?

the flank is protected only if the attack is made across the fortification. So, to protect the flank of your arty, place the fortification along the flank. It is still a flank attack but with fortification advantage.
