The rules on Expansion (p30) expressly state that distance is not measured.
Is the following expansion legal, (pre-supposing the absence of other physical constraints)
Before
HI.HI.HI.HI.HI
MI
After
HI.HI.HI.HI.HI.MI
----> ----> ---->
In other rulesets there is a constraint which limits the expansion distance of a unit to that of it's movement. So in this case the MI could expand up to 3UD to the left or right of its current position.
(Otherwise under appropriate conditions, a unit in the second or third rank of a line could be moved its entire length, a distance far greater than it's actual movement capacity) |

The 4th bullet on page 31 of the English version of the rules seems to limit extension to movement to the side to one UD less than the moving unit's full movement. |
