Devil advocates question
Played a game on Monday and a certain player running NUMIDIANS
Had An included general in combat and wants to prompt a unit outside his range so it's +1 to prompt the unit +1 because general is in combat and +1 because the unit he is prompting is out of range. So a total of three pips
His point is that
If the general were dead it would only take two pips to prompt the unit not three.
So the general should be allowed to use his internal cp to counter the in combat pip and then only two cp to prompt the out of range unit and not three cps
Is this correct? |

No.
Page 24 has a list of 3 things the Generals free pip can be used to do.
"Making up a new rule because he's done something daft and gotten himself into a right pickle" is not one of the 3 things.... _________________ www.madaxeman.com |

The rules do say a unit out of range of a general in melee is 3 pips. Yes it does mean it is 2 if he is dead.
Presumably their officers no longer wait for an order and know to make their own decisions. |

So you are saying that it only cost 2 cp for a general in combat to issue orders to another unit even if it is out of command range? |

What happened to gently playing the rules? It seems as if we now focus on finding the grammar with which to screw our opponents instead of enjoying a simple, easy to play "GAME". Alas, I see too many WRG 5th edition veterans smoking their pipes and corrupting the more sensible players. |

A bit harsh there Stephen.
I see players trying to correct misconceptions, put right the occasional error and support newer players not so far along in learning the rules.
I certainly haven't seen any of the grammatical niggles that were such a common feature of discussions about some earlier rule sets.

and if the general is dead, it can only have 1 to 3 PIP, so 1/3 risk of not moving any unit. If the general is in melee, he still have his normal PIP dice. _________________ Audentes fortuna iuvat. |
