211 - Khitan-Liao

Would you bother taking infantry, other than the compulsory (because it's just a must-have) 0-3 bases of hostage screen?

The Chinese mixed units are a tad expensive for what they are at 9pts each: Mdm swordsmen/bow. You get ordinary bow and mediocre swordsmen in the one unit for 9pts. Not sure it's worth it.

The Liao have 0-3 bowmen available already at 7pts, or they can be light infantry bow at 4pts.

There's 0-2 units of Chinese halberdiers, heavy swordsmen 2HW, again at 9pts - but if you take them with the mixed units, the halberdiers will slow them down. Might not be an issue, esp with a more static defense.

And there's 0-2 Chinese light artillery at 6pts each, but to take them you have to already have at least 2 of those mixed units.

My advices:
-command your second corps with the brilliant general as you have a mix infantry/cavalry/expendable who need a lot of PIP to be drive.
- change your 1st corps general to an included competent in a HC impact bow elite
- change your 3rd corps general to an included competent general in a HC impact bow elite and reinforce the corps with one of the 1st corps ordinary HC
same cost but your initiative is now +4 with steppes as terrain so, even if the enemy won the initiative, the only way for him to fight a near-all cavalry army in another terrain would be to give you the initiative.

Just while I'm taking that all in, I need to query whether you mean HC impact elite or HC bow elite? The Khitans don't have HC impact bow elite (that's the Jurchen-Chin).

You are right, the correct ID is impact elite (or bow elite). In the case of your 3rd corps, try to include your general in a HC bow elite instead of impact.

Re the 3rd corp, the only way I could make the General a HC bow elite would be to change the other HC unit to HC impact, to maintain the 1/2 bow 1/2 impact ratio of the Khitan horsemen.
