Had a situation come up in a game. Cav unit in plantation was straddling a road but not lined up on it. Opponent wanted to move down the road and use the bonus movement. This required a wheel of about 30 degrees to line up on the road. Did not find a clear answer from pages 27,65 and 68. His point to being on a road and fighting in terrain was not what he was trying to do but just to turn on the road and move with the bonus 1 UD. My position is that part of his unit sprayed off the road and he did not start lined up on the road and in "column" |

p 27 "moving its full movement distance by road"
I would argue if wheeling was required to get on the road, then that is not its full move distance. Easier to adjudicate if in the previous turn the player moved into position and declared the intent of the unit.
Game Ref/umpire could decide if its on or off the road. I suspect the author specified that roads were exactly 1 UD wide to make this unambiguous. |

Thanks Dan
It didn't help that road he used was wider than 1UD. Your quote should be enough to clear this up given the fact that he wasn't lined up on the road and had to wheel out of a small piece of terrain in order to become aligned with the road

What if a unit moving along a road can hit an enemy by using the extra 1UD but not using all of the extra movement and thereby not moving the full distance? This seems to cancel the extra UD |
