in a game where an open terrain hill was placed along the base edge. Can the camp be placed on this hill as it is considered open terrain? |

I believe not, a hill is still 'terrain', and can be used to assist defence. |

It would not help an unfortified camp nor would it change the basic die rolls a fortified camp requires.
Yes it is terrain but is considered open terrain and does not penalize troops moving over it |

What prompted this question was when my opponent moved a hill next to a coast and on my baseline. I wanted to place my camp next to the coast on my baseline on top of the hill
Camps and Fortifications
Pg 69 "the camp can only be deployed in open terrain and must be accessible by a passage at least one UD wide"
Types of Terrain
Pg 63 "TERRAIN is classified as open, rough, difficult or impassable"
Open
Pg 63. " OPEN TERRAIN is clear, flat or gently sloping terrain (a HILL?)that has no effect on movement. Any part of the table not covered by terrain elements is considered open terrain"
Gentle or Steep Hills
Pg 70. "A gentle hill is regarded as open terrain"
Up until this game it was always assumed you couldn't place a camp on a gentle hill as it was a terrain piece but the author appears to allow this as he describes it as open terrain as long as no other terrain piece is placed on it and it is not steep |

yes a hill is a terrain but a gentle hill is clear terrain.
the camp can not be placed in diffficult or rough terrain, but if the hill is gentle, that will not not be the case.
even with a fortiifed camp, you don't have the higher ground bonus for fight, that doesn't matter...
better to place a village on the hill. _________________ Audentes fortuna iuvat. |

But forbidden: terrain is terrain, don't looking at terrain effect. _________________ "Quand on a pas de technique, faut y aller à la zob"

nope
from the french book (and roughly tranlated by myself)
p63 Terrain types: clear is a terrain flat or with gentle slope wich have no effect on mouvement
p64 Hills: a gentle hill is considered by default as clear terrain
and p 69 camps&fortifications: the camp must be placed in a clear terrin zone and be reachable by a passage of 1 UD wide minimum.
So it seems clear that a hill with gentle slopes and no cover IS clear terrain and therefore can be used for the camp. _________________ Audentes fortuna iuvat. |
