|
Two units A and B are aligned next to each other and are directly opposite two enemy units X and Y and both sets of units are less than 1 UD apart. Unit A charges unit X and unit X stands. Unit B then charges directly ahead at unit Y. Unit Y evades. Unit B then contacts the front corner of unit X.
The question is does unit B stop on contact with unit X or can (or must) it continue, sliding alongside unit Y, until it has at least completed its minimum charge movement.

The answer is a combination of 2 paragraphs of the rule :
-page 36, charge definition , last bullet : unit B charges a unit Y which evades, consequently unit B is allowed to slide along the flank of unit Y,
-page 40, charge movement, 3rd paragraph : if unit B is mounted, it has to move at least 2 UD, if unit B is foot troop it has to move at least 1 UD . So depending on the initial distance between the 2 fronts line, and the move distance of unit B , B can end its move in a side to side support position. _________________ patrick lefebvre

But wait, I thought when a unit comes into contact it has to stop its movment? And wouldn't the corner to corner bases be contact and thus the unit would have to stop? |

X unit is already in frontal contact wiyh unit A when B touch its corner. So p 36 applies.
If unit B had charged first and Y evade, then the contact with B and the corner of X will have resulted in conformation between B and X, cause in this case X would had its front clear of ennemy unit. _________________ Audentes fortuna iuvat. |

So unit B charges unit Y but does not count as charging unit X. All makes sense. Thanks for the response.

So just to clarify, it can choose to conform to the new enemy as per the last bullet point in page 36 under "charge definition" But if it does not choose this then would be required to travel the minimum charge distance of 1UD/2UD depending on troop type? |

Basically, the first unit that moves into contact with an enemy unit is deemed to be charging. This unit must conform (in the example, moving into face to face contact with the enemy).
The second and subsequent units that move into contact are effectively moving into Support, these units must move 1UD / 2UD.
Does that help? |

Glen you are correct and the decision is by unit or group at players choice. |
