OK, here's something that confused us a bit last night.
Multiple opponents, page 59.
Citation: | When a unit already in melee with an enemy on it's front edge, is engaged in melee by a new enemy (other than light troops) on its flank or rear edge, it immediately loses one cohesion point, except if it is a WWg. |
Simple enough. A and X, both Cv, are in melee on their front edges. If X's friend Y, a Cv charges A in the flank, A loses a point of cohesion. If Z, an LH, charges A in the flank, there is no cohesion loss.
Citation: | A uni also loses a cohesion point if it is contacted during the same phase on two different sides by two different enemy units. At least one of the enemy must be a non-light troop contacting the flank or rear and all must conform properly. |
1) if Cv A is charged by Cv X in the front and Cv Y in the flank, A loses a point of cohesion.
2) If Cv A is charged by Cv X in the front and LH Y in the flank, A does not lose a point of cohesion because a non-light troop has to contact flank or rear?
3) If Cv A is charged by Cv X in the flank and Cv Y in the other flank, does A lose a point of cohesion because one of the enemy is a non-light troop contacting the flank or rear?
4) If disordered Cv A is charged by LH X in the front and Cv Y in the flank, does A lose a point of cohesion because one of the enemy is a non-light troop contacting the flank or rear?
The spirit of the rule seems to be that contact from light troops does not cause a cohesion loss, but according to the rules there seems to be a few situations where light troops can do this.
Now, it's fairly hard to set this up, so it doesn't happen often. Is this meant to be a little extra reward for pulling off something clever?
Or did we just get confused, and you have to contact an enemy unit on two edges with non-light troops to cause a cohesion loss? |

answers:
1) yes, A will be contacted on his front and on his flank by a non-light troop, so A loses a cohesion point.
2) yes, if the flank contact is by a LH, there is not cohesion lose because LH are light troops.
3)yes, and it will be the same if A is charged on the flank and rear by non-light troops.
4) yes, the unit on the flank is non-light, so A suffer the cohesion loss.
There is no confused: the contact by light troops on the flank never make cohesion loss. It's the contact by non-light troops on the flank while in contact frontal or on a another flank that cause cohesion loss.
If Cav A was charged simultaneously by two LH on left and right flank, A will not lose cohesion, because neither of these units are non-light troops. _________________ Audentes fortuna iuvat. |
