Light chariots can shoot to rear with a -1 penalty.

Can you force a rear shot return fire priority say with LC near the rear while shooting it in the front with something not so close ?

Can anyone think of why shooting to the rear could be more useful than facing a shooting target?

Since shooting to the rear incurs a -1 penalty, and nothing is otherwise specified in "Target Priority" (p46), I believe the light chariots must first shoot at targets in their front arc, and then at the closest enemy elsewhere including their rear arc.

Is that consistent with light horse who shoot at the closest in any direction since they have a 360 degree arc

I would have expected that chariots have two arcs, front and back, and shoot at the closest in either. I will need to read the rules. The last resort of a bounder and rotter for sure

It is consistent with all other troops who want to concentrate their firepower to their front. The chariots will have to shoot at the closest enemy in their side or rear arc, but only if there is nothing in range in their front arc.

Light horse are the only specific exception to the front arc priority, and they are the reason we get the ‘Parting shot’ rather than the ‘New kingdom Egyptian shot’ (what a mouthful!! )
