|
Last night Spartacus took on the Bactrians and there were a couple points that seem a bit odd.
Impetuous foot when charged by Impact cav keep their +1 bonus for being Impetuous where Impact foot loose their +1 for being impact.
Med Spear versus non- Impact med cav. The med cav get +1 base then they get +1 for non-impact cav against med foot. so cav +2 v spear +1
Where as Med cav impact against med spear. The spear cancels the impact and so the cav are +1 and the med foot +1. |

Impetuous troops have Impact ability, which gets cancelled if they are charged by mounted with Impact. Impetuous is almost exactly the same as Impact apart from that it is also cancelled when charging non-impetuous swordsmen.
Medium Spearmen vs mounted is a tricky one so it is explained in detail in the FAQ - but basically it's either 2-2 or 1-1 whether the cavalry has Impact or not _________________ www.madaxeman.com |

Don't have my rule book with me now, but I'm pretty sure that the +1 impetuous bonus is described as being an 'impact' bonus. As such, you should lose it when charged by impact cavalry.
You are forgetting that medium spear get impact when charged by non-impact cavalry. As such, they should be fighting on a net +2 vs +2.

Thanks for your reply.
With impetuous foot in the rules is reads Impetuous is similar to impact which is why we were not certain about it.
Med spear do not get impact v mounted that is misprint in the QRS if you check the rules heavy spear and pike are the only troops that get impact against mounted. |

The FAQ clarifies this situation quite explicitly
Citation: | Medium spearmen
Q : When receiving a charge from a mounted unit, does a medium spearmen unit get the Impact ability ?
A : If the mounted unit is not Impact, then yes. If the mounted unit also has Impact, then the medium
spearmen Impact bonus is cancelled, as p 17.
Note : Only Heavy spearmen and pikes keep their Impact against a mounted unit with Impact.
Examples :
A medium spearmen is charged frontally by a Cv:
▪ Medium spearmen = 1 + 1 Impact = +2
▪ Cv = 1 + 1 bonus vs MI = +2
A medium spearmen is charged frontally by an Impact Cv:
▪ Medium spearmen = 1 + 0 (no Impact) =+1
▪ Impact Cv = 1 + 0 (Impact cancelled by spearmen) =+1 |
