|
This is one of three peculiarities that came up at the Challenge.
[only one in my game ]
First off is something I and I suspect a lot of us have been getting wrong and that's the move distance for light troops exiting a ZoC.
The rule:
Page 34 Exiting a ZoC 1st b.p.
Citation: | A unit or group capable of evading (see p 37) must make a half-turn... etc. This manoeuvre is counted in the distance moved... |
2nd b.p.
Citation: | Light Troops can turn to face the enemy by using their free half-turn... |
In other words, light troops have to pay for the initial turn and therefore move one UD less than their full move. Even if they don't then turn to face the direction they came.
Who knew?

But then you tried to claim that in normal movement troops can only turn at the start or end of movement. _________________ Putting the ink into incompetence |

So what exactly are you saying?
1. Light troops who turn to move backwards out of a ZoC reduce their move by 1UD?
2. Light troops (not in a ZoC) who turn and move reduce their move by 1UD?
3. In both cases the light troops can make a second turn at the end of their move ‘for free’ without further reducing their move? |

1 is exact, if they have to perform a 1/2 turn. 3 is also true. 2 is false
Light troops moving out from a ZOC exerted on their rear move straight forward up to their max move, as they do not have to turn and can face the enemy for free at the end of their move. (p34 right, 2nd bullet)
Ex: one LH in a ZOC exerted on its front, turn back and move 4 UD. It can freely make a 1/2 at the end of the move.
Same LH with a ZOC exerted on its rear , move forward 5 UD and can make a 1/2 turn at the end of the move.
As a remind, a "free" turn for light troops has to be done at the start or the end a move. For moving out of a ZOC, it is only at the end. (p33, left 1st bullet) _________________ "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead"

Ah, I see what you were getting at - only the free turn is at the start or end of a move, other turns can be made at any point... _________________ Putting the ink into incompetence |
