I'm planning on making terrain for a tournament at the end of the month, and I'm curious - is there a standard way of choosing what size to make terrain?
Should I make the pieces as large as possible for maximum coverage? Or a small as possible so I can fit more on the table? Or somewhere in between? |

It all depends, of course (he said, unhelpfully). If your army is the sort that wants minimal terrain--a mounted army, for instance--go for the smallest pieces. If your army wants to shrink the board with terrain pieces then make them full sized. It is rare, in my experience, to find that a piece cannot fit on the table due to its size.
Also, if you are thinking to constrict the board with terrain then be sure to make yourself a waterway.

True enough. I'll be fighting with Impact/Impet Medium Swordsmen, Elephants, and Mediocre bowmen, so my best bet is maximizing rough ground and restricting board size.
I always try to take the waterway, since doing so cuts off half the possible places a flank march can come from. |
