Second query from a game yesterday
A general attached to a unit is engaged in melee. Under 'Commander in Melee' (P24) para 2, he remains engaged in melee "until the unit is eliminated or flees". Note no mention of the opposing unit. I assume this should be 'until the enemy unit is eliminated or flees'
In the following sequence of combats....
1. Friendly unit led by general is fighting against enemy unit A which has enemy unit B in support.
2. Unit led by general eliminates enemy unit A.
3. Enemy unit B conforms to fight the friendly unit.
... is the general still fighting at stage 3, or does he disengage after stage 2? The point was raised that conforming is considered a continuation of combat. |

The general becomes detached when A is eliminated.Â
When B conforms it is a continuation of the melee in the sense that B may not charge, but the enemy unit is facing a different opponent (B) so it is a different melee.Â
I believe the same would be true even if B was engaged on the flank of the enemy under the same situation; (A is eliminated causing the enemy to conform on B). |
