This was asked on FB. I restate the question and my answer. comments?
Situation:
You appear to be saying. A commander, which is not included in a unit, wishes to move by itself. As it moves by itself it will pass through a friendly unit that is in melee. After it passes through that unit, it will reach another friendly unit. When it gets there it wishes to then once the melee phase starts, fight in the front rank?
Rules:
p 24, 2nd paragraph and p 43, 1st bullet. Say yes
but p 43 1st bullet of special cases seems to say no and this over rides others.
I do think most people have not been picky on this rule. But the special cases bullet says no. |

P.43 is clear. A commander is NOT permitted to interpenetrate a unit that is engaged in melee or is providing support to a unit engaged in melee.
Presumably your original poster had a situation where the only route for the commander to reach the unit he wished to join, required interpenetration of a friendly unit? i.e. the commander couldn’t simply move around the friendly unit to contact the rear/side of the unit he wished to join. |
