The Pyrrhic list must take 4-12 Pikemen units.

In Italy 280-275BC, it has the following option:

"Replace half the Pikemen with Pikemen mediocre: 2-6"

So am i able to take 4 Pikemen mediocre, and no Pikemen?

If for example i decide to take only the minimum 4 pike units, and decide to run a list in Italy in 280BC, which of the following options may i take?

4 Pikemen - Yes

2 Pikemen and 2 Pikemen mediocre - ?

4 Pikemen mediocre - ?

I've read the "Types of Troops" section p77 and i'm unclear how the above works in that context.

You have to take half your Pikes as mediocre, at least and up to a maximum of 6.
So if you take the 4 minimal Pike, you can take 4, 3 or 2 mediocre and the others ordinary.

and with Pyhrrus in Italy does it mean you are limited to 6 pike in total, or 6 mediocre pike (so up to 12 pike if you have 6 ordinary)?

The limit is still 12 pike maximum, and since half at leasr must be mediocre, if you take 12 pike, that's between 6 and 12 mediocre, the restant in ordinary.

Saying just "pike" does include the elite pike but this will just confuse the issue.

We have:-
"Epirot and Macedonians"
pikemen 4-12
Replace half "Epirot and Macedonians" by Tarentine phalangites
Pikemen mediocre 2-6
The note at the end adds "at least half of pikemen must be mediocre "

So in Italy you start with 2 mediocre but can't go beyond 6 mediocre.
Minimum is 2ord+2med, 1ord +3med or 4mediocre
Max pike is 6ord + 6med (+2elite guard to be exact)
