| Does the army have to be specified as one of the sublists such as Trasibond or Nicea or can be just from the main part of the list which is perhaps 'Central' i.e. Constantinople? |

I don't believe you can just use the main body of the list. When the 4th Crusade took Constantinople the Byzantine breakaway states were the Despotate of Epirus, the Empire of Nicaea, and the Empire of Trebizond. When the Empire of Nicaea has retaken Constantinople its sub list is replaced by the Palaiologan Byzantine sub list. _________________ Patrick H. Lewis |

| ok thanks. effectively though it can be the main part of the list if wanted i suppose because the Palaiologan part is options only with no compulsories |

Further question on list composition for Later Byzantine.
The Empire of Nicaea sublist allows Despotat of Epirus allies.
So does that Allied command have to include the minimums from the main list as well (ie at least 1 Stratiotai, at least 1 Horse archer, at lease 1 bowmen) even when these minimums are already included in the first two main corps?
And assume that the Ally Corp can only include up to 2 Medium knights and up to 2 Albanians (as well as above if required).

Some lists do have such exceptions, but where these exist they are explicitly referenced in the list notes.
The default for all other allies, including all "internal" allies such as the Epirote ally to the Niccaeans, is that they must adhere to all minima and maxima requirements in the main list they are drawn from.
There is nothing in the general rules to suggest or imply that internal allies are an exception to this rule, and the fact that many players fervently wish that such exceptions exist has (so far) failed to result in this sort of general exception being manifested into existence in the text of the rulebook. _________________ www.madaxeman.com |
