Consider this situation

3 Cavalry hit three Impact Knight line in flank last turn, and the Knight has survived and turned to conform. It is now the Knight’s turn. The other two Knights are ZOCed by a Light Cavalry. There is not enough room between the Light Cavalry and center (general) Knight for the other (lower) Knight to conform to the Light Cavalry without pushing back the center (general) Knight.

Ideally the Knight player would like the other (lower) Knight to drive off the Light Cavalry or lock it in melee freeing up the center (general) Knight to then charge the center Cavalry and aid his friend already in melee, or at least turn around and come around . (However, the Light Cavalry will refuse to evade if this will result in the charging Knight conforming and pushing back the center (general) Knight thus preventing him from moving and locking both of them in the death zone of the ongoing Cavalry-Knight fight.) Is it possible to do this knowing the Light Cavalry will not evade?

If this is not possible, he would like to charge the Light Cavalry with the group of Knights (knowing the Light Cavalry will evade if both Knights charge) in such a manner that he will not leave his flank exposed to a charge from the Cavalry. If the Light Cavalry evade it will pass by the right (lower) end of the Cavalry line. Can the Knights arrange this? It seems not as he can’t wheel given he starts in the ZOC of the Most Threatening Enemy. Page 35 says the only permitted move inside the most threatening enemy (Light Cavalry)’s ZOC is to slide to align but wheeling is not mentioned (and hence presumably not allowed when the charge starts in a ZOC). (See page 35, second bullet point and page 43, third bullet point under 2. Direction of Charge, which says the charge direction must respect the most threatening enemy’s ZOC.) Is this correct, or is there some way for the Knights to wheel at the Bebe Ning if the charge even though they start inside the Light Cavalry’s ZOC?

Any other suggestions as to what the Knights can/should do?

Thanks.

Edit - I missed the errata on p 36 which says:

Movements allowed in ZoC (page 36)
▪ 2nd bullet: A unit may always charge the most threatening enemy. A wheel, quarter turn, half turn or slide is allowed to become more aligned with the most threatening enemy before charging it.

So you can wheel to align. But (assuming the two knights do this and the middle cavalry is not in front of them when they complete the wheel and start moving forward in their charge and the LC evades) the knights will stop as soon as they move forward a micron as the center cavalry will now be exerting a ZOC on the Knight and per page 43 6th point “If all initial targets evadeâ€, last bullet “stop if it meets… an enemy ZOC which blocks its movement†and page 35-36 “Movements allowed in an enemy ZOC†(charge the MTE) you can’t cross that ZOC of what is the MTE. They will thus stall out after completing the wheel and the general will be stuck behind the previously engaged Knight.

Note to self - it might be even better to align the LC parallel to the enemy, partially in front of both, <30mm from the enemy.

It is rather ambiguous whether a unit in a ZoC may optionally turn and optionally wheel before moving directly forward to contact. Slides or turns+wheels are part of the charge movement so one might expect them to be permitted, but why then explicitly permit a slide to align? [Should have checked the errata first. A lesson I keep relearning.]

See my edit - errata allows, slides, turns or wheels to align with the MTE.

Shows LC were doing their job properly in the face of unsupported Knights.
