Hi
On page 73 it says that enemy units not in melee flee.
Q1 - The rules say that units make an evade move. Can they do this as a group or do they have to throw a D6 for each separate unit for the distance moved?
Q2 - When do they flee? Is it after the flanking unit has finished it's move or before?
Q3 - If flanking unit charges an enemy unit as it arrives does the enemy flee or stay an fight?
Thank you for any help on this.

1) a group can evade if all the units have the same movement allowance: LH, Cv and Kn will throw 3 dices.
2) the unit must flee if it is at 4 UD or less of an ennemy unit's entry point. This takes place before any real move of the flank march.
3) so you can only charge if the unit is still at charge distance of the table board.
So basically:
A"my flank march enters"
B " where?"
A "since i have 2 CP, 3 units in line from here to here and 2 units in column here"
B "oh damned! my LI is at 2 UD of the line. He must flee (3 uD)"
A" the line is of Cav Bow, so they move 4 UD in sthraight line" Can't reach the LI, so no charge possible, but they can shoot. _________________ Audentes fortuna iuvat. |

You still have the issue of Light cavalry coming on and moving 5 UD.
I have always been of the belief that units cannot charge onto the board they must move. p72 Therefore the only contact permitted by units arriving by flank march is a move to support. |

Since all the standard rules on move apply, and a charge is a move, there is no restriction to charge, even when you just enter the board. It will be uncommon, as the defender has a move to evacuate the entry zone, and an evade if he is again at 4 UD of the board. But nothing prevents it. _________________ Audentes fortuna iuvat. |

Agreed fdunadan, charging is permitted and isn’t really a problem. - One corps is missing from the table from the start of the game and the arrival of this corps is ‘announced’ in the previous turn. This allows the opponent ample opportunity to prepare some response and means that there will be very few, if any, troops within 4UD of the table edge. Those that are forced to flee will usually be moved outside the charge range of any available LC or other units.Â
- Although LC can charge into contact with units located between 4-5UD from the edge, the opponent will usually have left them there deliberately for some purpose.Â
So either way there will be some valid in-game reason for the flank march to actually get into contact. |
