I am very optimistic this event will take place as planned. However I cannot confirm until more detail of the lifting of covid restrictions is announced - hopefully possible very soon.

I will not take any payments until I can give confirmation the tournement is going ahead. However please let me know if you intend to take part so I can monitor numbers.

My current expectation is that overseas entries are likely to have to quarantine on entry to Scotland. Please take that into consideration when considering entry.

The only way might be to justify the trip for work but i'd probably be in between jobs at that time...

Thankyou to all those expressing interest in Sgian-Dubh 2021. Subject to the note below I am now taking confirmed entries for the event – this will be by payment of the £30 entry fee via paypal to sgdubh@gmail.com (please use friends and family option).

At this stage the covid rules for holding indoor events have not yet been announced by the Scottish government. Although it looks very promising there is still a possibility of cancellation in which case all entry fees will be refunded in full. More likely is the possibility I will have to impose a limit on numbers, but I can’t even guess at that yet. If it becomes necessary to cancel any entries it will be on a ‘last in first out’ basis.

Because of the above I recommend all bookings for accommodation and travel are done on a fully refundable basis. I cannot accept any liability for these.

On a brighter note V4 of the rules will have been available for three months by the date of Sgian-Dubh. My inclination is to use V4 for the competition. If you have any views on this please let me know. I will confirm which rules are being used by end-May at the latest.

Update on Sgian-Dubh 2021

The tournament will be played using ADLG V4. Army lists are restricted to the date range 650BC (start of Classical Greek) to 565AD (death of Emperor Justinian). Lists to sgdubh@gmail.com by 30th June.

A sign of our covid times……
The event and venue are subject to Scottish government and local authority covid regulations applicable at the time. These rules can be subject to change at short notice (as we’ve seen at times over the last year!). If numbers have to be restricted cancellations will be applied to competitors in reverse order of entry fee payment. The fee will be fully refunded to cancelled entrants. I will not be liable for any other entrant costs.

Due to the local authority not re-opening community halls in time for Sgian-Dubh I have had to change venue. The new venue is

This is about 20min drive from the original venue, travelling on the M74. 

If anyone requires transport from their accommodation to the new venue let me know and I will do my best to organise/coordinate lifts.
