Given the choice in a list, do you generally prefer polearms or spears?

Polearms seem better marginally against some foot (they cancel impetuous sword impact) and can interpenetrate bowmen. Polearms also seem better in a long fight against as they get the +1 every time they win (effectively cancelling out a mounted opponent’s armor) mounted but spears are better at avoiding losing that first round where the cascade of failure usually starts.

Of course polearms halberd, ji, ge) generally look cooler….

Given the choice which do you usually take and why?

(I’m looking at options in the Serbian list (HI, armored or not), the Spring and Autumn Chinese (unarmored MI with rear support) and also some Medieval Chinese lists like the Western Xia).

Careful. In V4, the Two Handed Weapon class has now been split into two with Two Handed Weapon and Polearms. Which are you referring to?

It's probably a little too soon for a "what do you usually take" question to have a sensible answer, as there haven't been enough competitions (and games) featuring the new troop type of Polearm for players to have a consistent view
