I picked up some new (to me) Dark Ages figures this past weekend at Historicon and am now looking for armies to run them in. I have a question about Carolingian Frankish list. The first line is: Caballarii, medium or heavy cav impetuous, and allows one to "upgrade to elite (max  ." A later line is: Replace some Caballarii, allows one to change them to Heavy cav impact, and also says "upgrade to elite (max ."
Question: does that allow a maximum of 16 to be elite (assuming one can find the points)? Or is it 8 in total? Other lists are more specific about that, e.g. Syria, Cannan, and Ugarit #22. I can see an argument either way.

EDIT - I was wrong - see the next post.
I think the intent may have been for only 8 in total. However, lists that limit the total number across multiple troop types say “max X in total†so it looks like the Carolinian list allows 8 of each, at least until it gets hit with an errata.

Good spot!
I would note that even in the example below this they say “(max X in total)†so it seems the should change the notation in the Carolingian to be consistent but I agree that this paragraph prohibits upgrading more than 8 in total.
