If an Elephant is screened by an LF Jav in front edge to back edge contact(facing down the page) and I have a LF bow that is behind the flank of the LF Jav but not the elephant. My LF bow charges the LF Jav in the flank and eliminates the LF Jav. I decide to pursue do I contact the front of the elephant or its flank?

I think the answer is neither.

Take a look at page 54 "Columns Attacked from the flank"

Does this not describe the situation when you contact the Light Foot Javelin on the flank?

I believe Steve R is correct. The elephant would have been pushed back after the enemy light foot conformed onto the friendly light foot's flank. At the end of combat, the elephant and enemy light foot should be in corner-to-corner contact.

Because you are in front corner to front corner contact, in the elephant’s turn he will be forced to conform to your LI’s front edge, or move away from contact with your LI (possibly allowing you to charge him in the flank/rear in you next turn!).

Well, we played that wrong my LF bow conformed to the front edge of the elephant in the pursued phase. Does an LF base have a ZOC for Elephants or could the elephant just move across the face of my LF?

The LI does exert a ZOC.

(Hmm, according to page 42 LI cannot charge the front edge of undisrupted El in fields or brush. Not that they would want to, but - it's an obvious lacuna in the rules.)

Za Otlichiye - check the errata for a correction. LI may charge the front of EL in fields or brush or difficult terrain.

Given my LF put two hits on the Elephant before it went down which meant one of my bow units was able to finish off the elephant by shooting in the next turn, top of which it broke up the elephant battle, I thought it was a good move.
