Can you place a (fake) ambush marker when your list does not have any troops allowed to ambush there?

For example, only LI can ambush in fields. Can you place an ambush marker in a field if you don’t have any LI?

Yes you can do it and many of us do, every game.

Agreed Zoltan. 

Fake ambushes are used to slow enemy advances by denying multiple moves (until the marker is challenged and removed). The fact you don’t actually have the right troops to occupy the ambush is immaterial.
