Neep, here is the relevant section of p47
| Citation: | Evading is not allowed in the following cases: - The unit is engaged in melee or in melee support against an enemy (see p 60). A unit providing
only simple support can evade. - The evade move is blocked (see point 2 below).
Troops that must evade
Light infantry who would be contacted in open terrain by the charge of heavy troops must evade, unless after conformation they would: - Be in melee with light troops, elephants or
scythed chariots, - Be in a position to support a friendly unit.
If the light infantry cannot evade or if they evade and are caught and engaged in melee by troops of a type that automatically destroy them, they are eliminated (see p 62). |
So, if the LI are contacted by a charge or pursuit they must evade, unless they are in melee support (or blocked) in which case they are destroyed - simples  |
