The 2024 Chtis Stratège Double tournament will be on the 5th and 6th of October 2024 in the Salle Espace du 8, in Vendin-le-Veil (Northern France, very close to Lens, close to Lille).
This year theme is -1024 to 1024 : Europe, Mediterannean area and Middle East facing climate change

Details of army lists and their particularity are coming ! The number of points and number of reroll are based on how often the armies are played and how they performed.

There will be 4 games : some with classical Chtis scenarios and a brand new scenario for the Chtis tournament, very much in line with these days’ news

Date :
Saturday, October 5th : start and finish times TBC.
Sunday,October 6th : start and finish times TBC

Venue : Salle du 8, Place Saint-Auguste, F-62880 Vendin-le-Veil
Last year hall (salle Miterrand) is under maintenance and the city hall has allowed us to use the Salle du 8, Place Saint-Auguste (on the square behind the Lidl store), that’s about 2 miles away from last year hall.

Maximum number of teams : TBC but the hall is big !

Rules : L’Art de la Guerre, 4th edition with the latest amendments

Army size : around 300 points, depending on choice of army list

Number of games & game length : 4 games of 3hr30’ (end of the game at the umpire’s call)

Figure scale : 15mm. The miniatures must correctly represent the type of troop and the army must be fully painted

List specifications : army list and allied must be between 1024BC and 1024AD. More details to follow

Dice and terrain elements : dice will be supplied ; players should bring their own conform terrain elements (in shape and size). Tables will be 100x150cm

Entrance fee : TBC


CLIMATE CHANGE
Because of the desertification,
The defender must choose a Sand dune or a Scrub, even if these terrains are not in the list of the permitted terrains of the region.
This choice does not change the choice of the mandatory terrain (ex : field in plain). This Sand dune or Scrub chosen by the defender will be considered as a mandatory terrain (with the same restrictions for control as the mandatory terrain coming with the region) and will be counted in the number of terrain that the defender can choose : 1 mandatory (defined by the region, placed first), 1 more mandatory (the sand dune or scrub, placed after the river and costal zone), then 1 more terrain. The defender can still choose 2 more terrains if he wants to but the defender must have 3 terrains minimum, 5 terrains maximum.

The attacker must take the Sand Dune or Scrub that has not been chosen by the Defender.
This terrain will be considered as a mandatory terrain for control purpose. The attacker will choose more terrains from the region but will have between 2 and 4 terrains to place (including the sand dune or scrub)

Climate change also impacts the river : if this terrain is allowed by the region and is chosen (and confirmed by the roll of dice), it will always be considered as dried (basicallly a ditch running across the table, with the the 4UD-limit from table edge).
This dried river will never prevent another terrain to be placed under it. Its banks will always be considered as above its dried-up bed.The river can be crossed in bias. A group moving on the river can be broken by the banks (ex : a group with 1 unit on one bank, 2 units in the bed, 1 unit on the other bank will not be 1 group but 3 groups).
Choosing the river (here dried-up) prevents the other player to choose the coastal zone.


SCENARIOS
1st game « Hannibal ad portas ».
When Hannibal invaded Italy, rumors of his approching galvanized the Romans who knew they could not expect any pity. So cities fortified and raised troops to try and resist Hannibal.
In this scenario, the teams will be ranked by ELO (the average of the 2 ELO wil give the team’s ELO, fictionnal ELO will be given to those without one) and the lowest-ELO team will see :
- its baggage upgraded to a fortified baggage (for free). So the cohesion point of the army will be raised but if the baggage are taken, the loss of cohesoin point will be for a fortified baggage.
- its weakest general will be upgraded 1 rank (for free). But if this general is killed, the loss of cohesion point will be for the upgraded rank

2nd game « And there in the midst Achilles stood like the god of war », Homer, Iliad.
Achilles was renown as a warrior by both his friends and foes. Basically, his reputation scared the shit out of all his enemies.
In this scenario, everytime one of your general (attached to a unit or included) kill an enemy unit in combat (not in shooting) while being the main unit in melee (not as support, flank or rear support), you inflict one additionnal point of cohesion loss the opponents’ army. These points add up and will help to rout the opponents’army more quickly.

3rd game : Assault on Point du Hoc (new scenario for the Chtis Stratège tournament but the 80th anniversary of D-Day could not be forgotten)
There will be a hill covered with a orchard in the middle of the table, supplied and placed by the umpire and that cannot be moved. Its control will cost 6 cohesion points to the opponent.
At the end of each turn, we check who controls this orchard-covered hill in terms of cohesion points. Hits are deducted from the total.
Ex : Player A has 3 units of Medium Foot, one of which with 2 hit so he has 7 cohesion points. Player B has 4 units of Light Infantry, 2 of wich with one hit, so he has 6 cohesion points. Player A controls the hill this turn and TEMPORARY inflicts 6 cohesion points to the opponent army. These 6 points are added to the other losses & hits to help rout the army.
Control of this terrain can be decisive for the gain of the battle, as was the control du Pointe-du-Hoc for D-Day.

4th game « C’est le Nooord », Welcome to the Sticks
Both armies arrived late in the evening and set camp not far from each other, waiting for sunrise to get at each other. But in the morning a thick fog has fallen in the area.
In this scenrio, both armies use hidden deployment (embushes and flank marches must be written on the deployment sheet).

CHALLENGES (old habits die hard !)
- the Attila Challenge will reward, with a prize, the player who has taken the most ennemy baggage, counting 1 point for a non-fortified baggage, 3 points if fortified
- the Achilles Challenge will reward, with a prize, the player who has killed the most ennemy generals (1 point for ordinary, 2 points for competent, 4 points for brillant, 6 points for a strategist)
- the Pyrrhic Challenge will reward, with a prize, the player who has lost the most (of its own) generals (killed in melee or shot)
- the Dagobert Challenge will reward, with a prize, the team who has lost the most baggage, counting 1 point for a non-fortified baggage, 3 points if fortified
- the Picasso Challenge will reward, with a prize, the team with the nicest army (painting, baggage originality). Ray Charles being unavailable that weekend, jury will be a member of the Chtis Stratege who will do his job during the 1st game (so you can break all your spears afterwards without worry).

EVENT CARDS
To spice things up, at the beginning of the tournament, each team will have 4 random event cards.
In case of 2 or more identical cards, you may change one or more with another random card.
One card only can be played during each game. The cards may be played or must be played, depending on what’s written, at the beginning of the game, during the game or during/after an opponent phase.
These event cards will not change the course of war but may help each army and bring more fun.
