New to ADLG
2 LH in a group in an oblique line about 4UD in front a line of friendly heavy spearman (HS).
To their front were some enemy HC who charged the LH.
The LH chose to evade as a group
At the end of the evade, one of the LH was able to slide, avoid the HS & outreach the HC charge, but the other was unable to avoid the HS.
We weren't sure of the process, so had one of the LH evade with their slide & the other LH pull up 1 UD short of the HS & take the HC charge in the rear.
What should we have done? _________________ Always looking for a better way of doing stuff |

The slide sounds correct. For the other one, it does not pull up short, it makes its full move. If it cannot slide 1ud to avoid it starts to wheel when it is 1UD from the foot. (It has to start there as otherwise there would not be room to wheel).
Ps Sometimes an obstruction can save an evader rather than let it get caught, as it changes direction out of the chargers path and they cannot follow. Also as the foot are oblique it is possible that even though the HC have the distance they are not allowed to contact the evader due to the heavy foot ZoCs |

Right Mike, except the fleeing units do not suffer from or avoid ZOCs*. They do however slide, or if this is not possible, wheel or contract to avoid touching enemy units.
* other than a ZOC directly behind and less than 1 UD which prevents an evade altogether. |

Absolutely, but what i was trying to say is that the charger has to respect ZoCs so may be prevented from hitting the evader, even if in distance |

p48: Evade blocked by an obstacle, friends it cannot interpenetrate----- referring back to Evade Move 2- Blocked Move.....isn't the moved blocked & evade cancelled
or p48 5- evade move, maneuver to avoid...ie a wheel.
So...is the evade move cancelled because the HS can't be penetrated, or does the LH wheel?
There seems to be a contradiction _________________ Always looking for a better way of doing stuff |

The blocked and cancelled evade move on P48 refers to cases where the evader has an enemy ZOC (case 1) or obstacle (case 2) within 1 UD to its front after its initial turn/reorientation. In case 2 only a slide is permitted to avoid the obstacle, otherwise the evade is cancelled. In your example the obstacle was more than 1 UD from the evaders, so the rules in item 5 on P48 apply. |

As Mike says above, basically the unit or group declare the evade and dice for their adjusted move allowance. Then the group turns and starts their evade move, continuing as a group until one or more units hit an obstacle, whereupon each affected unit acts on its own, continuing up to its move allowance. |
