Hello All,
I hope this finds everyone well.
We've definitely lost our old venue, currently being demolished and rebuilt as flats, but we are happy to announce that Schiltron 2025 will take place over the weekend of 22nd & 23rd March, 2025 at a new one.
All the details are set out below.
The details
Dates: 22nd & 23rd March 2025
Venue: The Arena Gaming Centre, 4 Main St, Brightons, Falkirk FK2 0JT
https://www.diceandtokens.co.uk/the-arena.html
Times – The new venue means we don’t have to start later (and finish later), so meet 0930 for 10am start on the Saturday and 0900 for 0930 start on the Sunday.
Maximum number of players: The venue has permanent tables and can comfortably accommodate 30 players but certainly could take another 6-8. We’re going to start with the 30 player limit but remain flexible if there’s sufficient interest.
Number of rounds: 5 games - 3 on the Saturday and 2 on the Sunday. Games to last 2hrs 30 mins but must have completed 4 turns for each player by the 90 minute mark or blitz will be enforced to ensure this number of turns has been reached. Dice down when time called.
Format: 200 points, single list.
Scale: 15 mm
Theme: The Dark Ages.
Any army from those listed in the green section of the army lists, that’s armies 124 – 178 inclusive. All allies must be from this same section.
Special procedures: Version 4 of the rules, with any FAQs or Amendments issued prior to these dates.
1st round pairing: No club matchups in two 2 games, Swiss chess thereafter.
Dice will be provided, and only these dice to be used. Leave the dice on the table at the end of each game.
Mats – we’ve got a number but bring one if you’ve got one or prefer your own.
The cost will be £30 (pay on the day), which will include lunch both days. The venue sells hot & cold drinks at reasonable prices. Due to the change of start time, and the fact that the venue, a commercial outfit, also provide food and drinks, we can’t do the hot rolls on arrival.
If you need or want any further information, and any entries or expressions of interest to me at the following email address -
schiltronlists@gmail.com
Hope to see you there,
Cheers, Gary |

will you be allowing Breton with Saxon ally? That's a factual dark age army ? |

No, list 100 is not in the green section, so doesn't qualify. |

Just a gentle discussion point meant in the nicest possible way....why do by colour section? It's neither historic or geographically logical...just asking and no criticism as it's your comp. But it's inconsistent and rules out dark age relevant armies like saxons and bretons with allies..
Yours in peace etc... |

I don't mind explaining a gentle discussion point - When we took over the running of Schiltron, that was what we decided to do. A rolling theme of cycling through the different "periods" used in the army list section of the rule book and mirrored in the "Armies" section here. This decision was based on the fact that it is one of the recommended methods of deciding on a theme, and it is open, unambiguous and follows the rules author's delineation of periods.
It's also a point of difference as all the other competitions in this part of the world use specific dates or other related criteria to decide on their theme.
Last year's Roman theme was slightly different, but I'm told that it was not universally approved of, so we've gone back to our original principal.
Cheers. |

Cheers ..you can't please all the people all the time! Although I do believe the same theme was used this year in a comp approx 25 miles from you! I griped then too! |

The theme at the Open in January was Dark Ages western European.
Our theme is significantly wider in that all of the green section is in play, not just western Europe.
By March 2025 it will 14 months on from the Open 2024. I don't think that's an unreasonable time frame. Either way, given our cyclical progress through the periods, next year was always going to be green.
Cheers. |

Afternoon all,
Now that the Scottish Open is successfully over for another year, thoughts now turn to Schiltron
We are currently sitting at 32 either confirmed or having expressed an interest, with a few well-kent faces still to declare. At the moment we are looking at 36 as our ceiling number, with the possibility of a couple more pending discussions with the venue, so if you fancy battling through the Dark Ages don't leave it too long.
List Submission
Lists to me by Saturday 8th March please. Use the latest army spreadsheet available here -
http://artdelaguerre.fr/adlg/v3/?/en/aids
Please mark your CinC and include an army date or campaign/Strategist etc variant of the main list.
Cheers. |
