P 46 lists several exceptions to triggering a unit to make an uncontrolled charge.
1. The 4th bullet says one of the exceptions to uncontrolled charges is if the target unit is “in a villageâ€. How much of the target unit needs to be in the village to void the requirement to make an uncontrolled charge? All of it? Any of it? Part of the edge that will be contacted /conformed to?
2. The last bullet says an exception is “If, as a result of its charge, the unit would find itself in terrain that penalizes it in combat.†(With a note that you need to consider what happens if the target evades.) Does it have to make an uncontrolled charge if it could wheel (or slide) before the charge to avoid the offending terrain? |

My view on this is that if there exists a route to the target that is legal - in this case one that cannot leave it in penalizing terrain - then you must take the shortest such route as the other routes simply don't exist.

It brings up the converse question - May a unit make a uncosted slide in order to: avoid an undesirable enemy beyond evasion-capable target; or to line up desirable enemy beyond evasion-capable (especially LI) target? |
